Exhibition view of Jonna Pedersen’s art at Heerup Museum

Heerup & pro - on a voyage of discovery

21 June - 17 September 2023 at Heerup Museum

Heerup Museum's exhibition HEERUP & PRO – ON A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY presents new works by eleven artists from the Artists Association PRO, which are displayed in a lush dialogue with works by Heerup. Throughout the past year, PRO's artists have explored the museum's collection and archive and have been freely inspired by Heerup's works. The exhibition is a visual and lived experience of Heerup's life and art.

Heerup's oeuvre has inspired Jonna Pedersen to investigate the theme of togetherness and 'getting to know each other', which she has expressed in painting, installation, poems and linoleum prints.

She has recreated Heerup's painting Dancing Girl in her own universe and added romance in the form of a pair of dancing women's clogs and men's shoes. She has called the painting Summer Dance, where the viewer perhaps can imagine a dance with a partner on a beautiful sunny day.

She has also created a coffee table installation in honor of Heerup, where she has set up coffee and dialogue. She has imagined having him visit her studio legeHUSET, and described it in a poem, printed on the tablecloth. In this conversation corner, she invites the visitors to sit down and have a dialogue with Heerup.

A photo of Heerup, wearing blue and white-striped pyjamas, where he hangs linoleum cuts to dry, gave her the idea to create a clothesline where her own and PRO's works both hang and at the same time form a gathering point. Here hang, among other things, her poem Mocha On The Tongue, about drinking coffee, printed on a towel.

The photo also started her creation of linoleum prints – in colour. One print is about coming to coffee, the second is a paraphrase of the painting Summer Dance and for the third she was inspired by Heerup's Santa Claus. Then she felt like using the linoleum print Come For 3 O’clock Coffee in another medium and has created a digital collage on glass.

Participating PRO artists: Annette Sjølund, Bjørn Eriksen, Gunnar Bay, Hans Kjær, Hans Tyrrestrup, Jan Jensen, Henriette Lorentz, Jonna Pedersen, Jon Gislason, Ole Bach Sørensen and Karsten Vogel.

Deltagende PRO kunstnere: Annette Sjølund, Bjørn Eriksen, Gunnar Bay, Hans Kjær, Hans Tyrrestrup, Jan Jensen, Henriette Lorentz, Jonna Pedersen, Jon Gislason, Ole Bach Sørensen og Karsten Vogel.
